Day 2-Denali NP-3 Jul

Woke to a cold, drizzly day which meant no chance of a flight over Denali. So we left early and headed to Denali National Park.  Got an America the Beautiful Pass - this is actually the National Parks pass for the whole of the US not a beauty pageant pass!

Hopped on the shuttle bus to Eielson. We saw a grizzly bear -  admittedly at a distance, dall sheep, a mother moose with twins, later a solitary bull moose and a solitary female moose.
We saw a few tiny arctic squirrels which act just like meerkats.  Very cute.
Very beautiful scenery even if it was a dull overcast day.  No sign of Denali at all but apparently it only show itself two days a month in June and July.  We didn't realise it was so infrequent and we are feeling slightly jipped.

This is the view out of the window at the Eielson Visitor's centre.  There are so few days that you can actually see Denali out of the clouds they have spots on the floor where you stand, depending on your height, and then look at the markings on the window and that is where Denali would be if it was a sunny day!

Also saw some ravens and their nest. The shuttle bus trip took 8 hours so we arrive back at Denali Village at 9:30pm and opted for a quick fish and chips dinner. Not the best choice as it turned out.

We headed off to our Carlos Creek Cabins to discover a cute rustic cabin but the wifi leaves a lot to be desired. So you know what has happened if I don't update regularly for the next 3 days we are here. I don't know why I have so much trouble with technology when we go away but I swear everyone is effected by it here.

We are heading into Denali on the shuttle again tomorrow.
