Paros

Travelling today from Dubrovnik to Athens to Paros today.

Thursday 24 August 2023

Dubrovnik

One of the guys had covid at the airport and generously shared with all of us. I got it last night and spent today in bed. Covid is a breeze compared to the current flu in Australia. One day in bed with covid and then a day of sniffles and then I was fine.

Dubrovnik

 Michael’s birthday.

Church of All Saints:
Interior:
Went to Buza Bar. This guy took 15 minutes to get up the courage to jump from the rocks there. I must admit it was very high!
Of course Scott did it more stylishly when he went to Croatia:
Lo rum Island from Buza bar:
A clipper going around Locrum Island:
Saint Ignatius Church:
Interior:
The oldest Grotto in a church in Europe:
Saint Ignatius Steps. Modelled after the Spanish steps:
Then we decided to walk the city walls. We sensibly started at 5pm (they close the walls at 7pm) but it was still incredibly hot. We were going to go straight to dinner but the majority decided to head home for another shower before dinner.

Dinner at Rudjer restaurant. When booking I had to read 3 pages about the history of the 18th century Croatian Scientist Rudjer Boskovic who the restaurant is named after, answer some questions and score 100%. Luckily I got them all right and we all get a 10% discount tonight.
Beautiful restaurant in the Garden Court and fabulous food including beef cheeks, seafood risotto, sea bass and chicken Caesar salad.

Dubrovnik

St Nicholas Church:
Saint Blair’s Church constructed in 1706 it burnt down with only the silver statue of Saint Blaine saved. It was rebuilt in 1715 in the Venetian Baroque style.

Dinner at Castello restaurant. The GF pizzas were €11 more than the normal pizzas. GF risotto was €5 more than regular risotto (risotto is always gluten free). We had regular risotto takeaway and I had it for breakfast too. There a many restaurants and bakeries serving croissants for breakfast.

Breakfast at Konica Sadrvan where Ronnie had fantasy pancakes and Bosnian coffee.

Then Stopped at Počitelj a town built as early as 1363.

Stopped at Ston where the city wall is the second longest in the world after the Great Wall of China. We thought we’d come back in September when they hold a marathon around the wall.

The wall goes up the left hand side along the ridge of the hill and down the right hand side. In total 5.5km long.

Lunch at Mail Ston:  lunch at Kapitanova  Kuca

We had an ice cream for dinner in Dubrovnik as we were exhausted climbing up and down stairs to find our apartment. Villa Monte Santo. Not an ideal location (except for an extremely fit person) but a superb apartment with a kitchenette and a fabulous view:
