Visited Derby Line.
This beautiful building built in 1901 is Haskell Free Library and Opera House. The building is bisected by the Canadian - US border. One side is Rock Island, Quebec and the other side is Derby Line, Vermont. This used to be laughed about but since Trump it is a matter of contention and workers from Canada can only enter and exit from the door on the Canadian side. There are instructive signs everywhere. They are very strict these days.
This shows the border marked on the floor of the building. This is the children’s library within the turret of the building.
Another mark delineating the border on the library floor.
This backdrop to the stage was painted by famous Vermont artist Erwin Lamoss 1854-1910.
This is the border line in the Opera theatre.
The balcony seats used to be the cheap seats! This area is now used for the technical gear. The Opera House can seat 500 but they only need the lower floor now. They showvoperas and movies.
A small maple harvesting farm at Nelson Hill, Derby line. They pinch the sugar Maple trees and collect the sap via tubes which head towards the collecting barrel. Then they heat the sap to concentrate it to make Maple Syrup.
Shattuck hill lookout. This was a private farm but developers were going to buy it until locals got together and bought it and turned it into a lookout for everyone.
