Canada/NE - MTL - Day 23

Jackie and Rich are taking us across Lake Champlain via the ferry to Plattsburgh,
New York to catch the Amtrak Adarondak train from there to Montreal, Canada.
Plattsburgh's strategic location on Lake Champlain made it a target
during conflicts, including the American Revolutionary War.
The Battle of Plattsburgh in 1814 was the decisive final battle of the
War of 1812, control over the British of the city.
Visited Point au Roche StatePark. Low water but
the beach looked great to us.
Canadian Geese are a bit shy. Walk closer and they
hit the water and paddle away.
Last day with Jackie and Rich.
Plattsburgh station built in 1886. You can’t enter from this side atm as the
building needs work. You walk around the other side and step up into
the train from temporary steps the conductors wheel up.
There are no fences to railway lines anywhere in Vermont.
Take responsibility for yourself!

Left Plattsburgh at 4:02. Stopped at Canadian border for immigration control at 4:45.
Left Canadian border at 5:48. Arrived Montreal 7:25 - an hour early.
We’ve heard some French in the parts of Canada we’ve visited so far but
Montreal is predominantly French speaking. Most of the signs don’t even
bother with the English translation. All the hotel and restaurant workers
are fluent in both. If you say “hi” or respond to their “hi”
they know you are English and speak English.
Church turned into a restaurant and cabaret.
Five min walk to Le Square Phillips Hotel & Suites where we
staying from Gare Centrale Montreal. Because we smiled (?)
we were upgraded to a suite! Very high ceilings and a separate
lounge, dining, full kitchen and a huge bathroom.

Dinner at Il Focolaio for yummy GF pizza.
They have a 250mm wide 200x magnifying mirror here in the bathroom.
It’s portable but I can see why no one has taken it home - it’s scary!
