Day 40-Bryce Canyon-10 Aug

New Tweet just in from the National Parks Service! 10/08/2016 2:50 pm
"Due to extreme weather all roads in and leading to Zion National Park are closed, including State Route 9 in Springdale until further notice."
We went through that road yesterday! Luckily the weather was perfect when we went through.

Paul and I went horse riding while Sandra and Ron caught up on photos & slept in.
We left the inn at 6:30 and saw prong horn along the way:
We arrived at the Corral early and watched a cowboy shoe some horses.
I told them I hadn't riden for 30 years and they gave me a lovely, well behaved but  responsive horse called Sauve (pronounced Sauve-ey which is Spanish):
Paul has endurance riding experience and they gave him a very large mule called Miranda. Only the eyes and long ears gave away the fact she wasn't a horse. Our guide also had a mule and he likesthem because they are very sure footed on the steep drop offs.

While we were waiting for other to mount we saw a mule deer fawn:
We rode 8 miles down the top of the canyon down steep paths with huge drop offs on one side to the bottom then around peek-a-boo trail and back up to the top again. It was great to see the hoodoos so close up.

 Josh was our guide:

Paul on Miranda at the drink stop:

We came back to the Inn and had lunch and did some washing in the afternoon.
Other Animals we've seen at Bryce include: Steller's Jay, Clark's Nutcracker, Unita chipmunk and Utah prairie dog.

There is a storm brewing and we are watching because Bryce canyon has frequent lightening strikes because it is so high.  Many of the trees have been hit and have sprial deformations on them.

Weather for the Grand Canyon today is raining, tomorrow rain and then clearing just when we arrive!  We have been so lucky with the weather.
