Namibia - Day 2

Johannesburg to Windhoek with South African Airways.  Early start to get to the airport but we did get time to have breakfast. Some of the hotel workers have the most amazing names: Resolution and Ambition and Precious.

Met our tour bus driver Cryford and guide Chiara.  We were told that at all the places we stay wifi works until it doesn’t. I think this means it works if you are lucky.  The drought currently effecting the supply of running and bottled water in Johannesburg isn’t effecting Namibia. We are at the end of the wet season and the surrounding hills and fields are very green. The soil is very rocky and the grasses are sparse.

Driving from Windhoek Airport to Windhoek we saw our first tortoise, baboon and springbok. Only got a photo of one of the baboons:

Lutheran Church:
Independence memorial museum with a statue of Namibia’s first president out the front. Namibia has a very turbulent history and has only been independent for 30 years. This was built by the North Koreans in 2014.

And at lunch at the safari club we saw an Aberdeen finch feeding its young in its hanging nest:

Mongoose:

Dinner at the famous (to those in the know) Joe's Beerhouse. Where we saw our first giraffe:

For entree we had smoked kudu - fabulous and main meal barbecued medium rare Kudu, springbok and zebra. No gamey taste at all and the zebra was sensational.

Staying at Arebbusch Lodge.
