Day 15 - Menorca - Es Grau

Es Grau, Albufera Des Grau, Cami De Cavalls And Cap Favartix. Distance:  16 km Total ascent: 290 m

We were dropped off at a distinctive cattle grid and followed the Cami de Cavalls to Cap Favartix lighthouse.

(pronounced Fava-reechh) (x =chhh)

Far de Favaritx lighthouse.
Far de Favaritx
Then followed the east coast to Es Grau on the Cami de Cavalls passing beaches only accessible on foot.

Cala Tortuga. Which we discovered was a nudist beach as we
approached the people sunning themselves at the far end.

Shady
Badsa de Morelos Nature reserve which is
a fresh water lake just next to the sea.
Cala Morella Nou.
Cala Rambles

Fondejador des Llanes
Mini stonehenge in the middle of the photo above this one.
House on a Hill.
Cala de Sa Toretta for lunch in a shady spot at
the back of the beach.
Far de Favaritx in the distant background and Torre de Rambla on top of the point in the closer background.  Built in 1799 for defence it's currently being reconstructed.  The closest bays are Tamarells des Sud.
Torres de Rambla.
Es Grau lovely whitewashed houses and moorings for
lots of boats in summer.

Ancient well with bucket on a pulley to access water for animals.
Little ladders so tortoises and lizards can get out.
S’Alburfera Lake, an important site for migrating birds and
tortoises.  All we saw were greens, a crane and some fish.
We heard a few chaffinches.
Had a drink beside the water with the lighthouse in the distance
so we could see how far we’d come.
Finished up with a swim in the hotel pool. Lovely.
The beaches so far aren’t a patch on Australian beaches
but the water has an incredible array of colours.
