Essex Junction to Rich’s cousin’s “camp” at Newport, Vermont.
It’s raining for the first time in a month and our first real day of rain on the whole trip so far.
We saw some covered bridges on the way:
Waterville Covered Bridge
Montgomery Covered bridge.
Jayne’s Covered Bridge at Coddling Hollow 1877
Also known as the Kissing Bridge. Such a cute name!
Lumber Mill bridge
Morgan Covered Bridge.
Hutchins Covered Bridge 1803.
Lattice framing with timber pegs instead of nails.
Fuller Covered Bridge.
Beehive hanging from a tree.
Chipmunk! At last.
The picture on the wall is a barn quilt. Painted on timber.
Big Falls at Big Falls State Park.
“Camp” turns out to be a very cute cottage right on
the Lake Memphremagog front.
View from the deck. You can see Canada
from here across the lake.
any more but rare and illusive. They are iconic symbols
of the northern US lakes and Canada. They are vulnerable to
fishing tackle and habitat contamination. Also the return of the
bald head eagle who pick the babies from the back
of the mother loon who shelters them there.
