We are off to Queenstown, New Zealand to walk the Routeburn and Queen Charlotte Tracks and visit Ron's relatives in Gisborne.
Crack of dawn start to get to the Airport despite staying in Waverton because busses have replaced the weekend trains while they do to trackwork on the bridge and make the trip a little longer.
We are travelling light because Sounds Air who fly us from Wellington to Picton and return have a maximum baggage limit of 20kg per person including carry on!
Had a bit of a scare with an aborted landing because the weather changed just as we were trying to land. So we climbed quickly and flew around for a half an hour with other aircraft too! The Air New Zealand crew had it all under control I’m sure and kept us informed regularly. We eventually landed successfully in the rain. 20 minutes later the weather cleared and it was sunny and hot for the rest of the day and evening. It’s not called the land of the long white cloud for nothing!
Ronnie and I are travelling with Deb, Cressida, Michele and later Michael and Celia who are just doing the Queen Charlotte Track.
